Why relaunch the blog? The answer is easy... YOU!!! Over the last few years I have been playing with the idea of transitioning from photographer to full fledge travel blogger but something has always held me back. In recent months the number of people reaching out looking for tips, tricks and resources has made me realize I should not wait any longer. So here goes nothing... Please keep in mind, I do not claim to be an expert by any means but I have learned a few things over the years and if that knowledge can help to inspire you in any way I am happy to share. Now strap in tight because it’s bound to be a bumpy ride!
As with most things in life it is important to start with a goal. I recommend to start with a reoccurring smaller goal that is easily achieved, but no matter how big or small your goal might be the important thing is that you are working towards it. Another tip is to write it down. I don’t know about you but I get extreme pleasure from checking things off lists. My personal goal of doing a minimum of 1 new thing every month and 1 international adventure each year, does not seem like a complicated goal but it does require me to make a conscience effort. I keep 2 lists which I constantly update, adding as I hear about interesting things or checking off as I experience each new thing.
Probably the most frequently asked question I get is “How can you afford to adventure so much?”. The answer is simple... research & planning. There are some incredible deals out there you just have to know where to find them. There are many websites available to help in discovering new things to do no matter where your goals may take you. Trip Advisor & Expedia are probably the most well known sites that offer a selection of “things to do” to help you explore locally, nationally & internationally. Although being well known most people do not think of utilizing these sites for local activities but they offer ranked lists, reviews and in app purchases for a one stop shop experience. While most of their purchases offer a great no nonsense return policy it is important to keep an eye on this just in case. Groupon is another well known site that will not only introduce you to new things but will also offer discounted prices on everything from local restaurants to international travel packages. My adventure buddies and I are currently hooked on TravelZoo. While being similar to Groupon, the TravelZoo teams work tirelessly to find the BEST deals and weekly release a top 20 list that is sure to inspire you to try something new.
When planning out your adventures keep in mind some things are seasonal, for instance in the fall apple picking and pumpkin patches are amongst the most popular outings while summer brings a lavender festival that only happens for one (maybe two) weekends a year. Obviously these are regional events so it is important to look at event calendars (google is a great place to start) for your area and mark your calendars!!!
Happy Wandering
