Packing like a pro (part 2)
As promised, I am back with more packing tips and tricks. This time we are focusing on what items should be in your personal carry-on bag. The items you carry in this bag should be essential to your comfort and entertainment. It is important not to overpack this bag, remember it only feels heavier as your trip progresses so keep it as simple as possible.
First I want to talk about my current carry-on OBSESSION... the High Altitude Flight Bag by Genius Pack (www.geniuspack.com)!! This bag is the perfect size, keeps all your stuff organized and wraps around your in flight tray table. I love that this bag keeps my stuff at an easy to reach level and gives me back my much needed leg room.
Once you’ve selected your perfect bag it’s time to pack your items. While packing make sure you are organized in a way that promotes a seam-less and easy journey through the airport. That means using a clear plastic bag for all your liquids and easy access to your wallet/ID.
Now let’s get down to the specifics. There are many variations of this list floating around out there but this is a list of the items I have come to rely on during my travels. This list may vary slightly for you so feel free to put it to the test and find what works best for you.
My essentials include:
1. iPad with keyboard
2. Inflatable neck pillow... I prefer inflatable because it’s easier to pack
3. Gum
4. Collapsable water bottle... again collapsable is easier to pack and can be filled once you are through security
5. Eye mask
6. Headphones... noise cancelling are preferred
7. Portable charger with cables
8. Lip balm
9. Hand sanitizer
10. Eye drops
11. Hand lotion
12. Comb
13. Toothbrush and toothpaste
14. Face wipes
15. Wallet/ID
16. Cell phone
Optional items if needed:
Compression socks... if you suffer from swollen feet and/or ankles
Energy bar or snack... recommended for longer flights
A scarf that can double as a blanket in cooler months
Any first aid or medication items you might need
